House Dance Class Level 2 – 19H00-20H00:

What to Expect in a Level 2 House Dance Class

At this level, dancers are expected to have familiarity with basic house dance steps, such as the jack, shuffle, loose legs, and stomps. The focus in Level 2 is on deepening that foundation while introducing more complex combinations, faster tempos, and more intricate patterns. Here’s what you can expect:

1. Refining Basic Techniques

  • Footwork: You’ll continue to develop quick and precise footwork, exploring how to transition smoothly between steps.
  • The Jack: This is the core groove of house dance. Level 2 will help you improve your control over this movement, syncing it with your footwork and upper body.

2. Intermediate Combinations

  • You’ll work on linking foundational movements into longer, more dynamic sequences. This will challenge your stamina and musicality as you learn to flow through different moves with ease.
  • Freestyle & Improvisation: At this stage, there is an emphasis on incorporating your own style and creativity into the movements. You’ll practice improvising to house music rhythms, learning how to respond to the energy of the music.

3. Musicality

  • Musical interpretation is key in house dance, and in Level 2, you’ll dive deeper into understanding the rhythms and beats that define house music. You’ll learn how to syncopate your movements to match the various layers of the music, playing with timing and accents.

4. Partnering and Cyphers

  • In addition to solo work, you’ll explore some basic partnering skills, practicing how to dance in sync with another dancer or how to engage in a cypher (a circle where dancers take turns showcasing their moves). This introduces a communal and interactive aspect of house culture.
